i am thankful that each day, there is something new that we can each learn of. a thought, an act that sparks off into reflection and personal application.
was watching
Voices of the World in leture today. indeed in every language, it encapulates an entire culture, the way they think, the ambitions, dreams and goals that they have, no matter how simple the language may be. and if that language is lost, the culture follows suit, as though the culture never ever did exist. and a vision of the entire culture's existence follows likewise.
Imagine what would have happened if English or Mandarin never has been?
Every language has a myraid of ways in expressing itself. even for the expression - i love you, it brings forth different emotions and in the very way it is being brought forth; simply amazing and intriguing...
was reminded that as languages continue to die out, would there come a day like the tower of Babel, where people speak as one, where everyone understands each other? i hope not when the cost is at the expense of the diversity we do have now. imagine a language like a child that is lost, the potential and the dream disappears as well, as though it never has been. tragic. but yet, i guess it would be great to have all of us understand one another, with no second-guessing.
and even as i write now, i realized how valuable are the writing and spelling systems that help us to preserve languages. and i believe no matter how good or bad a writer is, in what is written, a goal and direction is set. something powerful is being ingrained into each of us. the language we use speaks of the mindset and values that we embrace. the way we write speaks of the thoughts that are running through our minds and how we are being part of this culture.
language is mystifying yet also revealing...Labels: thoughts on lessons
